AQUA 2024: Irida presents field trial findings using krill meal

As the aquaculture industry continues to evolve, so does the need for innovative solutions that enhance fish health and sustainability. This year, Irida is shining a spotlight on this very topic during the AQUA 2024 event, from August 26-30, in Copenhagen.

Irida has been a proud participant in AQUA events since 2022, and this year, they will be at Booth #170-171, ready to engage and share the latest developments from the aquaculture world.

One of the highlights of Irida’s participation this year is the presentation of their trial using krill meal. Irida will showcase findings on the effects of krill meal (provided by QRILL Aqua) on wound healing and tissue restoration in organic European seabass.

The study will be presented by Phelly Vasilaki (R&D Manager) during the Conference.

The findings from this 12 – week trial revealed promising results, indicating that krill meal enriched diets could enhance intestinal resilience and facilitate recovery from bacterial enteritis infections in commercially organic farmed European seabass. These results align well with previous studies that highlight the benefits of krill meal on wound healing and tissue restoration in fish.
This trial was conducted by Phelly Vasilaki, along with Maria Chiara Cascarano, Kiranpreet Kaur, Virginie Claeyssens, Vasiliki Sonia Papaioannou and Pantelis Katharios at Galaxidi Marine Farm.

What this trial means for the future of aquaculture diets

This trial opens the door to new possibilities for the inclusion of krill meal in functional fish diets, particularly those aimed at enhancing post-bacterial infections recovery under commercial farm conditions.

Join us at Booth #170-171 to learn more about Irida’s findings from this study, and to hear more about how we see science and innovation driving the future of aquaculture, not to mention the role krill meal can play in fish health and welfare.
